Teaching and Learning

Welcome and Thanks - Physician Assistant Studies

It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Dr. Charles Oberg as Director of Augsburg College's Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program.

Dr. Oberg comes to Augsburg with a strong background in medical education, serving most recently as program director of the Maternal and Child Health Program at the University of Minnesota and holding the rank of Professor in the School of Public Health there. Subsequent to that position, Dr. Oberg served as Chief of Pediatrics at Hennepin County Medical Center.

A well published scholar and practitioner, Dr. Oberg was awarded the 2014 Paul and Sheila Wellstone Public Health Achievement Award, which honors "a person who has distinguished him/herself in public health through outstanding contribution, which exemplifies [the Minnesota Public Health Association’s] mission to promote and protect the health of individuals, families and community...(and) leadership as demonstrated by the impact on others' careers or having made a contribution that reflects innovation, creativity or courageous pioneering effort consistent with professional excellence and public service."

In his new role at Augsburg, Dr. Oberg succeeds Dr. Dawn Ludwig, who retires this summer after 19 years as founding Director of Augsburg’s Department of Physician Assistant Studies. Augsburg's program was the first physician assistant program in Minnesota and has a proven track record of success, with graduates of the program consistently passing their national board examination with above-average scores. The 31-month, full-time PA program educates generalist physician assistants oriented toward service to underserved populations, both in rural and urban settings.

Please join me in thanking Dr. Dawn Ludwig for her leadership of this signature program, and in welcoming Dr. Charles Oberg to Augsburg College.
