Faculty Present @ AAC&U Global Learning Conference

Ann Lutterman-Aguilar, (Mexico Site Director and Instructor, Center for Global Education) and Joseph A Erickson, (Education) will present at the AAC&U Global Learning Conference in Minneapolis on Oct. 16-18, 2014.

Session Information
Title: Clues for Educating Global Citizens: What Our Research Suggests

Abstract:
Do service-learning and study abroad have a role to play in provoking or facilitating meaningful attitude change and action among its participants? What are the conditions that make authentic attitude change and global civic engagement possible? This session will address diverse ways in which we can educate our students to be responsible global citizens who engage in action that address today’s global challenges. We will share the results of a survey conducted in 2013-14 that investigated to what extent service-learning employing Contact Theory is an effective strategy for changing learners’ attitudes and beliefs. We will also share findings about global citizenship from a mixed methods long-term impact study involving 559 former students who participated in a community-based education program in Mexico over the span of three decades. We will conclude with lively conversation about the ways in which the research shared relates to your own work as global educators.
