Writing Lab Tutors Await You
It may be time for you to find the Augsburg College Writing Lab! Tutors can help with any writing task you may have. You will find the Lab on the street level of Lindell Library, left of the circulation desk.
Here are the hours:
Monday: 11:10 a.m.-1:40 p.m.; 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Tuesday: 12:30-3 p.m.; 3:30-6 p.m.; 7:30-10 p.m.
Wednesday: 3:30-6:00 p.m.; 6:30-9 p.m.

Paris and Berlin in Springtime -- Apply by Feb. 11

Course: ENL 270 or HIS 195 (students may also opt to take it for upper-division or honors credit - see instructors) -- LAF credit

This unique, interdisciplinary course will draw you into the interwar period, when thousands of writers and artists flocked to Paris and Berlin in search of fame, fortune, and inspiration, helping to create a cultural of social transgression and enormous creative explosiveness amidst a swiftly changing political landscape. They witnessed the failure of capitalism and liberal democracy, the rise of authoritarian and totalitarian dictatorship, and ultimately the spread of political violence and the advance of war.
We will explore the work of famous expatriate American and British writers who settled in these cities, as well as the local artists who were experimenting with artistic form. Our travels in Paris and Berlin will also allow you to consider how modernist practices in literature, film, and theater are currently adapted by artists in these cities today.

Augsburg Abroad, TRiO/SSS and Multicultural Student Services invite Pell Grant Recipients* to learn how you could be awarded up to $8000 to study and/or intern abroad through the Gilman International Scholarship. *This scholarship is funded by the US Department of State and is open only to Pell Grant recipients who are also US Citizens.

In her highly innovative translations of ancient plays, acclaimed poet Anne Carson "combines contemporary language with the traditional structures and rhetoric of Greek tragedy, opening up [ancient tales]...to a modern audience..." In Antigonick, Carson emphasizes the importance of time-and timing-in tragedy, by introducing a silent character, Nick, who is always on stage measuring things while the events of the play unfold. Antigone is "here given an entirely fresh language and presentation." The Augsburg Theater Department production is an area premiere and only the second production ever of this provocative new play.

Cap and Gown Information - Please Read
Please order your cap and gown by February 27! The website will close at midnight for ordering. All late order will have to be placed at the bookstore and will have a $10 late charge.

Prices for cap and gowns are located on website. You will pay for your order when you pick up at the bookstore on or after April 11.

Tutors and Mentors Needed
Stop by and visit with staff from ACES (Athletes Committed to Educating Students) an after-school tutoring/mentoring program on Monday, Feb.10 from 9:30 am - 1:00 p.m. in the lobby of the Christensen Center.
ACES is an strong after-school tutor/mentor program that helps urban fourth-through eighth-grade students in both Minneapolis Public Schools and St. Paul Public Schools overcome the academic achievement and opportunity gaps. Students who consistently attend ACES show academic growth, improved behavior and school attendance, and increased identity with their community. ACES is recognized as a model after-school program for MPS and SPPS.

Dave St. Peter joined the Twins in 1990 and was named president in 2002. He oversees the team's day-to-day operations, strategic planning and interaction with Major League Baseball. Congratulations Augsburg Concert Band
For the first time in just under 50 years, the Augsburg College Concert Band has been selected to perform at the Minnesota Music Educator's Midwinter Clinic. We are excited to feature a partnership with the Fridley High School Band as we perform at this event. We were selected through a blind audition process, competing with high schools, colleges and universities in the upper Midwest.
Our performance will be the opening concert for the MMEA Midwinter clinic
at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Minneapolis Convention Center, Ballroom A. The performance is free and open to the public. Hope to see you there!

Keeping Track of Auggies
Garry Hesser Leads Workshop and Delivers Keynote
Garry Hesser, Emeritus Sabo Professor of Citizenship and Learning [Sociology], led a January 31 all-day Faculty Development Workshop at Hamline University on "Liberal Education as Practice: Institutionalizing Experiential Education". In addition, Garry was the inaugural keynote speaker on February 4 at the Chaska Community Dialogue Series on Climate Departure, which is hosted by Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church. His address was entitled: "Presencing Leadership: Moving from an Egocentric to an Ecocentric Orientation."
