Annual Security Report
In accordance with federal law, Augsburg College produces an Annual Security Report. This report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on-campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by Augsburg; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security, such as policies concerning sexual assault, and other matters. You can obtain a paper copy of this report by contacting Augsburg's Department of Public Safety at 612-330-1717. Writing Lab: Visit Now; Visit Often
In the two weeks that the Writing Lab has been open, tutors have conducted 150 sessions with Augsburg students. Join them! Here are the hours:
Monday: 11:10 a.m. - 1:40 p.m. and 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Tuesday: 12:30 - 3 p.m., 3:30 - 6 p.m., and 7:30 -10 p.m.
Wednesday: 3:30 - 6 p.m. and 6:30 - 9 p.m.
Thursday: 12:30 - 3 p.m., 3:30 - 6 p.m., and 7:30 - 10 p.m.
Friday: 4:30 - 7 p.m.

Active Wellness 2014
The response to the announcement of our new wellness program, Active Wellness 2014, has been great. In fact, many of you have already registered for your health evaluations. If you have not done so, there is still time, go to the HR Moodle site in the Active Wellness 2014 section for information on how to register.

Remember, this program is offered at no cost to you, and we are offering a financial incentive for participation. Employees on our health plan can earn a discount of $25 per month (up to $300 per year) on their health insurance premiums for participation in the Active Wellness 2014 program.
Do you want to learn more, or have questions? If so, informational brown bag sessions will be held next week in the East Commons of Christensen Center.
Representatives from Interactive Wellness will be on campus to provide more information about the Active Wellness 2014 program. They will give a brief presentation followed by an opportunity for you to ask them questions about the program.

Students - Earn $55/day Judging Debate Tournaments
The MN Urban Debate League, a program of Augsburg College and the Sabo Center is looking for college students interested in judging high school debate tournaments starting Oct. 4 and going through mid December. We will pay certified judges $55 per day.
Certified college students can receive $55 per day on Fridays and Saturdays throughout this fall to judge high school students at debate tournaments. Most tournaments last on Fridays from 3 - 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.
To become certified you must attend a judge training. Trainings will be held this Thursday (Oct. 3rd) and Friday (Oct. 4th) and next week Oct. 10th and 11th at 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. We will provide you with pizza at the training.

Change to Community Lunches
There is no "First Wednesday" community lunch for faculty and staff this week. We are currently reviewing the former Community Time lunch format, and are exploring other ways to create community time. We want to engage a broader group of faculty and staff in the planning for community engagement efforts over this academic year.
Why the change? Last spring a number of questions were raised about the budget allocation for community lunches in the context of the cost reductions that the College was making. Additionally, year-end feedback about the format indicated a desire to make the lunches a more productive use of faculty and staff time. As a result, we are reducing the number of the lunches this year while we take time to plan how best to use our resources. We are asking faculty and staff to help us envision new ways to enhance community engagement, and we look forward to your input on an upcoming survey.

TODAY - North Star STEM Drop-In Registration 1-4 p.m.
North Star STEM is a National Science Foundation supported program which supports African-American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, Alaska Native and Pacific Islander students working toward bachelor's degrees in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
Stop by the STEM Programs office (Science 154) on the first floor of the Science building today (October 1st), anytime between 1:00 and 4:00, to
- Learn more about North Star STEM (NSS) programs, eligibility, and application process.
- Register for NSS 3M Industry visit on October 10th from 2-5 p.m.
- Learn about and/or register for the NSS Grad Lab on October 19th from 9-1 a.m.
- Learn about and/or register for the NSS Bridge to the REU, a six-week free student-led seminar focused on the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) application process. Takes place Mondays 5-6 p.m., October 21st through November 25th.
- Learn about and/or apply for funding to attend the NSF-sponsored Emerging Researcher's Conference in Washington D.C., February 20-22, 2014.
- Express interest in the NSS peer-mentoring program.
- Express interest in travel funding to professional conferences including SHPE, NSBE, and Experimental Biology.

Brown Bag with Faculty Senators (Wednesday)
On Wednesday, 2 October, several faculty senators (Dave Matz, Doug Green, Vicki Olson, Kathy Swanson, and Marty Stortz, among others) will be in the Marshall Room in shifts from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Though there is no longer a Community Time lunch, we hope you'll bring your lunch and join us for an informal 'brown-bag' information-gathering and discussion session about what your greatest concerns are this year and what you think the most important long-term issues are facing the college.
Seminary and Divinity School Day
Are you considering the idea of theological graduate school education? Is there a possibility you might want to become a pastor, a professor of religion, or work in a church vocation?
Gather with your peers at Gustavus Adolphus College on Tuesday, October 15. This all-day event will give you the opportunity to meet with representatives from up to 20 seminaries and divinity schools from around the nation, from multiple denominational affiliations. The day will also feature a keynote address during the luncheon, breakout sessions and discussions about the discernment process, questions of faith, what it's like to be in ministry (ordained, not ordained, specialized), the difference between a seminary and divinity school, and more.
By attending, you will have the chance to visit with students from other regional undergraduate schools who have similar questions and interests.
Transportation to and from Gustavus will be provided. There is no charge for this event (which includes lunch) but you must pre-register by noon Monday, Oct. 7.

Trip to Mille Lacs
On October 12
Enjoy a joint trip with St. Thomas students to the Mille Lacs Community and the Mille Lacs Indian Museum on the shores of beautiful Lake Mille Lacs. Learn more about one of our neighboring Ojibwe Anishinabe communities, their history, and culture. Our day will include a tour of the community and government center, a visit to the Museum and Trading Post, and a brief stop at the Casino.
