Auggies Go Google Workshop

Join us today Monday, July 29 in Sverdrup 205 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. We'll be providing some useful hands on experience with Google Apps for Education (Email, Calendar and Drive).

This workshop will the held in a Windows computer lab but if you want to bring your own laptop you can do so.

To help you gear up for the 2013-2014 academic year, your IT User Support Team offers its Moodle Huddle workshop series for all Augsburg faculty and staff. Eighteen 20-minute sessions will be held in Sverdrup Hall, 2nd floor from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. each of the following days:

Integrated Course Design Workshop

All faculty are invited to participate in a workshop designed to enhance your instructional design skills and discover ways to incorporate online learning in your courses. It is particularly critical for Augsburg for Adults and graduate faculty who are creating "hybrid" courses for 2013-14.

The Integrated Course Design for Hybrid Learning is a hands-on workshop that introduces Augsburg's Moodle Template for developing your course in accordance with GAAC/AAC requirements and a Course Design Support site to provide additional detail and examples for Moodle applications. In this workshop, you will explore Fink's model for course design, which integrates situational factors, learning goals, learning activities, and assessment. We will also address how to choose face-to-face and online activities to create an engaging learning experience, provide direct instruction, and facilitate active, collaborative learning. The final workshops will be held on:

Last Two Weeks of Summer in the WL

Tutors in the Writing Lab will continue working on summer students' and researchers' papers through SS II, ending on August 8. Because of a reduction in library hours, the WL schedule had to be adjusted slightly. These are the hours for the last two week:

July 8 - August 8: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between 4:30 - 7:00 p.m. (NOTE THIS CHANGE).

The Lab is located on the street level of Lindell Library, just left of the circulation desk. Tutors are available to help any Augsburg student with any writing assignment.

Fitness Incentive Program Completion

Congratulations to all our faculty and staff that participated in the Fitness Incentives Program. This year the program was completed in two phases from January to June. Participants were required to work out for a minimum of thirty minutes, four times a week. Those that successfully completed the program were eligible to receive either a $250 contribution to their HSA account or be entered into a drawing to receive one of several $50 gift cards at the end of each phase.

The participation was fantastic. Faculty and staff worked out for hundreds of hours, and moved across hundreds of miles in their work outs. It was great to see the creative ways participants found to work out. They walked, biked, Zumba'd and mountain climbed their way to better health. Faculty and Staff participants with a qualifying HSA account will see your contribution on the July 26, 2013 payroll. Those that were eligible for the gift card drawing will be notified by email if they have won.

Join Us for Readings by MFA Mentors and Guests

Augsburg's inaugural cohort is here on campus for a ten-day residency and literary festival of classes, workshops, open mics and public readings and screenings.

Please join us for evening readings featuring our MFA mentors and guest writers. All readings will be held in the Tjornholm Nelson Theater, Foss Center. All events begin at 7:30 p.m. and are free and open to the public.

On Monday, July 29, the evening reading will feature prize-winning creative nonfiction writer Sue William Silverman.

MFA mentors Cary Waterman and Cass Dalglish will read on Tuesday, July 30.

Nationally recognized Poet Ed Bok Lee will be the guest reader on Wednesday, July 31.

On Friday, Aug. 2, the MFA program will host the acclaimed fiction writer, Benjamin Percy.
