Oregon University System Begins Travel to Cuba Program

In June, 15 students from three universities in the Oregon University System will travel to Cuba for the first time as part of a new study abroad program, reports Oregon University newspaper The Daily Barometer. In preparation for the trip, the students will take a course dedicated to Cuban society and culture through film. Once on the island, students will be enrolled in courses on different themes, such as education and health care, in addition to seeing and meeting Cubans working in those respective fields.

This program is a customized travel seminar provided by the Center for Global Education. http://www.dailybarometer.com/students-count-down-to-cuba-1.3044471#.UZ-Rf7XqlWL?utm_source=May+24%2C+2013+Blast&utm_campaign=May+24+2013+Blast&utm_medium=email

General Announcements

Central Services Announcement

Effective June 3, Augsburg has engaged the services of Marco, Inc. to operate Central Services: copy center, mail, and shipping/receiving. Our study revealed an opportunity to more cost effectively service on-campus and off-campus printing and copying requests, expand services, and experience equipment cost savings.

You will enjoy the same hours and great services you have been receiving. New features include calling the copy center at extension 1054 with all copier AND printer issues; on-line print job request system; personal training; and expanded resources including equipment utilizing new, efficient technologies. Our new partnership is further supporting Augsburg's commitment to sustainability.

I am collaborating with Marco to assure a smooth transition. This will involve discussions with high-use departments familiar with Central Services and departments where services are sent off campus. Please call me at extension 1297 with your questions.

House for Rent This Summer Near Campus

I just found out that our tenants plan to buy a house and move out this summer, so I'm looking to fill the upper half of our duplex. It's a beautiful 1925 recently restored house, 2 bedroom apartment, with a large garden, super sunny with seven south windows that look right into the adjacent park, and a short walk to the farmers market, train station, YMCA, and more in the Corcoran neighborhood.

The opening date is still undetermined, but I'm trying to be proactive at finding someone who could be a good fit for our family (my partner, Evi, and our 3-year-old, Olivia). If you have any friends who want to live in a nice South Minneapolis neighborhood that's centrally located, please have them be in touch. Thanks!
