General Announcements

Tickets On Sale Now

Tickets are now on sale for the next production here in the Augsburg Theater Department.

Terminating
By Tony Kushner
Directed by Justin Caron
November 15, 16, 17 at 7 p.m.
Tjornhom-Nelson Theater, Foss Center

Tickets are $4 general public; $2 ACTC faculty and staff; $3 Non-Augsburg Students; $1 Augsburg students and children under age 12.

For tickets go to:
http://www.augsburg.edu/theater/reservations/

In Terminating or Sonnet LXXV or “Lass mein Schmerzen nicht verloren sein” or Ambivalence,
Esther, an analyst, and Hendryk, her former patient, are accompanied by their lovers as they engage in a discussion about human identity. The characters in Kushner’s Terminating are brimming with profound thought, or maybe they’re just full of nonsense—that’s up for the audience to decide. Either way, Kushner’s funny, yet tragic style raises important questions about queerness, identity, sex, love, and loss.

Join Campus Kitchen for Thanksgiving

Every year, each Campus Kitchen program in the country celebrates Thanksgiving with an event called Turkeypalooza. For the week before Thanksgiving, we like to serve a traditional Thanksgiving meal to our neighbors at the sites where we serve food at each week (Ebenezer, Peace House, Brian Coyle, and Common Bond).

Rather than using the fine surplus food that A'viands generously provides us all year, we count on the Augsburg Community to donate the turkey, potatoes, green beans, and money we need to cook all of this extra food.

This year, we have another reason to celebrate, as Finnegans Beer and Community Fund chose us as one of their Three Small Pints: innovative programs that are focused on food and community. On Give to the Max Day, November 15, Finnegans will match all the money raised online up to $1,500. This is a great day to make a monetary donation for Turkeypalooza as it will be doubled. See the campaign at http://givemn.razoo.com/users/pcs2fg

We are looking for people and teams of people (like specific offices or departments) to donate ingredients and/or cash. Please let our intern us know if you would like to represent your office and commit to gather a certain food item. Or, if a cash donation works better, as a representative you can collect money and donate it online on November 15 so that it is doubled by Finnegans. Email if we can count on you and your office.

We will be collecting the frozen turkeys, bags a potatoes, cash, and anything else at a table in the Christensen Center on Thursday 11/15 and Friday 11/16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you can't deliver your gifts then, let us know and we'll make special arrangements.

Schedule of volunteer shifts and meals:
Thanksgiving Cooking Class - Tuesday 11/13 7-9 p.m.
Thanksgiving Cooking Class - Wednesday 11/14 7-9 p.m.
Packaging senior meals - Thursday 11/15 2:30-3 p.m.

Augsburg College Featured in Inside Higher Ed Story

Thanks to Augsburg College President Paul Pribbenow for sharing with Libby Nelson, a reporter from Inside Higher Ed, the ways in which a Lutheran education is relevant and vital in today's world. Pribbenow during early October spoke at length with Nelson about the first part of his sabbatical, the five key characteristics of Lutheran higher education, and work mentoring presidents of four Lutheran colleges and universities who, themselves, are not Lutheran.

Learn About Paid Summer Research 11/14 or 11/15

URGO will be hosting two information sessions next week about paid summer research opportunities for undergraduate students. Research is not only a great summer job, but it also allows you to explore a topic you are interested in, develop skills in your field, and build a professional relationship with a faculty mentor. Here on campus, the URGO Summer Research Program provides a 10-week research experience where students are paid to join a faculty member's on-going research/creative line or carry out an individually-designed project. Off campus, many universities host similar research programs that are open to students from around the country. Come learn about these exciting opportunities and how to build a strong application at one of following information sessions:

Wednesday, November 14th at 12pm
Riverside Room in Christiansen Center

or

Thursday, November 15th at 12pm
OGC 100

Snacks will be provided!

If you have any questions regarding the sessions or summer research opportunities, please contact Kirsten O'Brien at obrienk@augsburg.edu or stop by the URGO office in 152 Science Hall.

Redesigned Athletics Website Launched

http://athletics.augsburg.edu/news/2012/11/6/gen110612a.aspx

http://athletics.augsburg.edu/

Augsburg College launched a new redesign of its athletic website on Tuesday, offering Auggie fans, friends and visitors a new and improved way to follow Augsburg athletics.

The redesign was the second for Augsburg since starting its partnership with SIDEARM Sports, a Syracuse, N.Y.-based company specializing in collegiate athletic site design, in 2009. SIDEARM Sports has more than 500 collegiate clients across North America, including several of Augsburg's sister schools in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The redesign was done in conjunction with a similar redesign of Augsburg College's webpage, which was launched last week.

The new site features a new, dynamic design which includes strong graphics, photos and video, with a cleaner, easier-to-navigate look. Users will find improved access to social media and multimedia outlets, including Augsburg athletics' live webcasts, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube accounts, giving visitors a greater insight into Augsburg sports.

The process was completed during the fall by Augsburg's Sports Information staff -- Sports Information Director Don Stoner and Assistant SIDs Kelly Anderson Diercks and Ryan Kershaw -- during the fall, along with Augsburg SID student staff, Augsburg Marketing and Communication staff, and the staff at SIDEARM Sports.

We would like to hear feedback from you about the athletic site redesign. Contact Don Stoner (612-330-1677, stoner@augsburg.edu), Kelly Anderson Diercks (612-330-1245, diercks@augsburg.edu) or Ryan Kershaw (612-330-1252, kershaw@augsburg.edu) with your comments, questions or concerns. You can also provide feedback on Augsburg's Facebook or Twitter accounts.

Carpooling Home for Christmas! Want A Ride Home?

If you live in any of the states on the way to Philadelphia, PA (which includes WI, IL, IN, OH, and PA), and don't feel like paying for a plane ticket (they are SOOOO expensive!), I am already driving through your home state and would like at least one other person to make the long drive (or at least part of it) with.

I will make the trip in 2 days stopping over night in Chicago, IL. Dates of departure from Minneapolis as well as from Philadelphia on the way back are flexible right now - I'll work with whoever would like to carpool with me to figure out more concrete dates.

I have a family that willingly opens their home to travelers for free in Chicago, so there is no hotel cost or anything like that. I'll drive and all I ask is for a little gas money compensation (any little bit helps-and it's WAY cheaper than airfare).

Please contact me if you are interested (sometime between now and the beginning of December would be great)! My email address is reddy@augsburg.edu!
