General Announcements

TRiO/SSS Summer Bridge 2012

Please join us in welcoming the 11th Annual Summer Bridge: Class of 2012.

Seventeen new Auggies will begin their journey at Augsburg College with TRiO/SSS Summer Bridge. This five-week academic program is offered to Augsburg first-year students who qualify for the TRiO/SSS program as first generation, low income, and/or having a disability, in addition to meeting academic need requirements. Summer Bridge runs Sunday, July 8, through Thursday, August 9, 2012.

Summer Bridge students will take their first two Augsburg courses: REL 100: Christian Vocation and the Search for Meaning taught by Lori Hale, and COM 111: Introduction to Public Speaking taught by Bob Groven. In addition to these courses, Summer Bridge students attend Supplemental Instruction sessions, workshops to learn more about Augsburg College and college life, as well as social and cultural enrichment activities. The students will develop a strong sense of community through learning and living together. The Summer Bridge program and TRiO/SSS are jointly funded by the U.S. Department of Education and Augsburg College.

A great deal of appreciation goes to everyone who continues to help us make this program a huge success every year.

Any questions about the program can be directed to the TRiO/SSS office by calling 612-330-1311 or emailing triosss@augsburg.edu. Visit our Web page at www.augsburg.edu/triosss

Farmers Market Today 2-5 p.m.

Come out to Foss Chapel today from 2-5 p.m. for fresh vegetables, olive oil, pickles, bread, some fresh zucchini bread, and more. The selection of vegetables we have for this time of the year is quite remarkable, thanks to the warm spring, and it will only get better in weeks to come.

While tomorrow's market is from 2-5 p.m. at Augsburg and 11-1 p.m. at Brian Coyle, we are fairly certain that we will switch the times starting next week to better serve the neighborhood. After a safe couple of years, the neighborhood is much more active in the evenings and given that the city and state will allow us, we'll confirm the change soon and make sure that you know about it.

Thanks for coming out and supporting the farmers.

Register Soon for Vocation Conference at Augsburg

The 18th annual Vocation of a Lutheran College Conference will convene at Augsburg College from Monday, July 30, to Wednesday, August 1. Each year this conference brings together our Lutheran college colleagues to explore the distinctive roles we play in higher education. This year's theme is "A Calling to Embrace Creation: Lutheran Higher Education, Sustainability, and Stewardship."

The agenda for the conference is available at: http://www.augsburg.edu/acfl/documents/2012Agenda.pdf

The ELCA sponsors teams of up to five faculty and staff from each of the ELCA Colleges to attend this annual gathering. As was true for the past three years, one of the benefits of being the host site is that we have the option of inviting more than five faculty and staff to attend.

If you are able to attend, register as soon as possible at: http://www.augsburg.edu/acfl/conferenceapplication.html

If you have questions about registration, contact Lonna Field at 612-330-1467 or acfl@augsburg.edu. If you would like more information about the conference, contact Tom Morgan at 1773 or morgan@augsburg.edu
