Public Safety and Facilities Announcements

Crime Alert: Burglary- Luther Hall

May 3 2012: Burglary

Public Safety was notified around 12:30 am on May 3 2012 of a burglary on campus from Luther Hall. A neighborhood witness reported 3 youth, described as Somali males, enter a first floor Luther apartment through a window. Public Safety responded but the 3 youth were gone upon Public Safety’s arrival. Minneapolis police was also notified of this crime. The residents of the apartment were not home at the time of the forced entry. Multiple laptop computers and other electronics were reported missing when they returned.

If you have any information about this crime or believe you may have witnessed something in relation to this crime, please contact the Director of Public Safety Jesse Cashman, cashman@augsburg.edu (612-330-1717), or Minneapolis Police 911.

Augsburg College believes that descriptors alone are not a valid reason to profile or
cast suspicion on any individual. They are included here because they may reasonably assist
in identifying the perpetrators of this incident.

You Can Help Prevent Crime at Augsburg!

Immediately report any suspicious activity to the Minneapolis Police or Augsburg DPS.

Always lock office windows, individual office or apartment doors and the suite door whenever you leave, even if you will only be gone briefly. Most home burglaries take only 3 to 5 minutes, office burglaries can take even less time.

Keep valuables out of view. If possible, secure them in a locking drawer or cabinet.

Back up your data. Your files can easily be backed up to your network folder or a USB drive. Don't risk losing your notes, research and other work. If you have any questions about the best way to back up your data, talk to your LFC or to Student Computing.
