Crime Alert: Motor Vehicle Theft
December 6 2011: Motor Vehicle Theft
Public Safety was notified on the evening of December 5 2011 of a motor vehicle theft from Butler Place. The crime happened between 2:30 pm and 8:30 pm on the 5th. Minneapolis Police were notified of this crime. There are currently no suspects. If you have any information about this crime, please report to Public Safety Dispatch 612-330-1717 or Minneapolis Police 911.

-Make sure to place valuables out of site before you park. Keep them in the trunk or on your person.
Check on your vehicle often.
Keep your keys on your person at all times.
Immediately report any suspicious activity to the Minneapolis Police or Augsburg DPS.

Your LFC team and guest presenters will share a variety of tools and resources that can be applied in your day-to-day activities and in special projects that arise. Content is appropriate for users with all levels of computing experience.

Late Night Lindell Library Hours
Lindell Library will be open until 1 a.m. through Friday, Dec. 9. Come for research assistance, technology advice, or to do some serious studying. We’re expecting you!
On Saturday, December 10, the library will follow the WEC schedule: 7:30 am – 6:00 pm.

Last Spanish Conversation Group of 2011
Stressed out about the end of the semester? Take a break and join us for the last Spanish conversation group of 2011! Our relaxed and friendly gatherings are a place where you can meet new people, practice your Spanish & learn about culture. We promise there are NO grammar lessons. All language levels are welcome to join us every Thursday from 11:00-12:30 in the Riverside Rm., 2nd fl. of the Christensen Center. Come for 10 mins. or for the whole session, whatever works for you. We invite you to join us for LAS POSADAS in chapel on Friday, December 9th at 10:20am. Please bring your children to help celebrate!
Las Posadas is a procession reenacting the journey of Mary and Joseph from Nazareth to Bethlehem in their search for lodging (posada), awaiting the birth of baby Jesus. It is cultural tradition in many Spanish-speaking communities around the world.
At Augsburg, Las Posadas marks the Advent season, a time of waiting for God's will, hoping for peace and reconciliation, renewing faith, and reflecting on the value of true hospitality.
The Las Posadas celebration culminates with the Augsburg community sharing fellowship through food, music, and breaking piñatas.

Goliards to Raffle Rose Ensemble Concert Tickets
Back by popular demand, the Goliard Society of Medievalists will be tabling in Christensen Center all this week to raffle four pairs of tickets to the Rose Ensemble's "Slavic Wonders" Christmas Concert, December 22 or 23, 2011.
Tickets are $1, and are good for one chance to win a pair tickets to either Rose Ensemble concert. There are four chances to win. Prizes are valued at $74.
The drawing will be held December 9 at 10:40am in Hoversten Chapel, during the community time following Chapel. Winners need not be present to win. You must be 18 or older to purchase ticket or win prize. Winners are responsible for any applicable fees or taxes.

Spirit of MLK Award Nominations: Due Next Week
The 2012 MLK Committee is seeking nominations for the 2011 MLK Award. Annually, we award two people who have demonstrated peace, love, humility, integrity and honor while working with others. We are looking for people who have demonstrated these abilities on or off campus.
Please give this careful consideration and take the time to nominate one faculty or staff member and/or one student that you believe should receive special recognition for following in the spirit of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Self nominations are also accepted.
Please provide:
• Specific examples of how this person has represented peace, love, humility, integrity and honor while working with others
• Your name and contact information and the full name of the person/people that you are nominating along with their contact information.

Jerusalem: History, Religion and Politics
The Honors 100 sections will be making presentations on the multiple facets of Jerusalem in biblical tradition; its role in Judaism, Christianity and Islam; the city in art, literature and film. Also contemporary politics. The morning session is 9:40-11:10 in OGC 114, the afternoon in SCI 123, 1:30-3:00. The presentations are 10 minutes each and you may come and go. The college community is invited.
Pre-Finals Stress Relief Coming
Please join CCHP and Paws for Learning today (Wednesday 12/7) from 12 - 2 pm in Christensen Center for some much needed pre-finals/last week of class stress relief.
Stop by for some hot chocolate and info and tips on stress relief. Grab a stress ball or a candy cane and of course hang out with the therapy dogs from Paws for Learning.

Ally Training I & II are offered to all faculty, staff, and students at Augsburg College to gain knowledge, skills, and resources around being intentionally supportive of LGBTQIA communities. Participants will learn about LGBTQIA history and culture, confront myths and stereotypes, discuss heterosexual and gender-conforming privilege, discuss potential scenarios, ask questions in a safe environment, and discuss next steps on how to be an effective ally to LGBTQIA individuals at Augsburg. Ally Training II continues on what was discussed in Ally Training I and looks at how gender and sexuality intersect with race, class, ability, age, and other identities.
You don't need to attend both trainings, but it's recommended that you have attended Ally Training I before signing up for Ally Training II. To RSVP for either one, please email Michael Grewe at grewe@augsburg.edu.

Carl, Smith Named D3football.com All-West Region

MINNEAPOLIS – Augsburg College's Adam Carl (SO, Eagan, Minn.) and Edmond Smith (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./North HS) were named to the D3football.com All-West Region Team, it was announced on Monday.
Carl was named to the squad as a second-team tight end, while Smith earned a spot on the third team as a defensive tackle. A total of 75 players were selected to the All-West Region squads from 212 nominations by Division III schools to D3football.com, a national website that covers NCAA Division III football.
Both Carl and Smith also earned All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors in November, Carl as a first-team selection and Smith as a second-team honoree.
Carl had a career season for the Auggies in 2011, leading the team with 58 receptions and five receiving touchdowns, while standing second on the team with 616 receiving yards. His 5.80 receptions per-game were tops among all MIAC receivers (overall statistics), and his 61.6 receiving yards per-game were sixth-best – both per-game averages tops among MIAC tight ends.
Carl had back-to-back career-best performances in two of Augsburg's last three games -- a 10-reception, 103-yard, two-touchdown effort in Augsburg's 31-23 win over Macalester on Oct. 29, and an 11-catch, 115-yard, two-touchdown performance in Augsburg's 37-20 win at Gustavus on Nov. 5. Carl earned D3football.com Team of the Week honors for his efforts against Macalester.
An accounting major with a 3.50 grade-point average, Carl also was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 6 (Division III) football squad in November.
Smith had the best year of his career on the defensive line in 2011, standing second on the team in tackles with 90 (31 solo), including 10.5 tackles for-loss, 5.5 sacks, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup.
His 9.0 tackles per-game were fifth-best among MIAC players, and his 0.8 sacks per-game were tied for tops among MIAC players. In his career (26 games), Smith finished with 150 tackles (63 solo), 17.5 tackles for-loss and 6.0 sacks.
Smith had two double-digit tackle games this year, including a 16-tackle effort in a win over Carleton on Oct. 1 that earned him MIAC Defensive Player of the Week and D3football.com Team of the Week honors.
Under seventh-year head coach Frank Haege, Augsburg finished 6-4 overall, 4-4 in MIAC play. Augsburg recorded its 13th above-.500 finish in school history and first since a 6-4 overall (5-4 MIAC) finish in 1999.
Augsburg has had at least one member named to the All-West Region team every year since the squad was first named in 2005 by D3football.com, and has had 13 all-region honorees in the award's history.
