The End Is Near - Visit the Writing Lab

Remember the Augsburg Writing Lab as you near the end of the term! The Lab is located in Lindell Library, street level, left of the circulation desk. Tutors can help writers at any stage of their writing process. No appointments are taken; just stop by. Hours are as follows:

Monday: 11:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m. & 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Tuesday: 12:00-2:30 p.m.; 3:00-5:30 p.m. & 7:30-10:00 p.m.
Wednesday: 3:00-5:30 p.m. & 6:30-9:00 p.m.
Thursday: 12:00-2:30 p.m.; 3:00-5:30 p.m. & 7:30-10:00 p.m.
Friday: 5:00-7:30 p.m.
Sunday: 5:00-8:00 p.m.

ACTC Undergraduate Research Symposium

Submit a proposal for Sustainable Urban Communities, Redux—the ACTC Undergraduate Research Symposium happening this March!

Undergraduate students in all disciplines are invited to submit work for presentation at the second annual ACTC Undergraduate Research Symposium on March 8, 2012. All forms of student work are eligible, including research, creative writing, civic engagement, original art, and more.

The symposium highlights ACTC students' contributions to the vibrant Twin Cities community through direct study, applied research, and/or community involvement. Submit your proposal today, and join us on March 8 in celebration of our sustainable urban community.

Special Election for Senate District 59

There will be a Special Senate District 59 primary on December 6, 2011.
SD 59 Senator Larry Pogemiller resigned recently after many years of service.

Augsburg has submitted a list of students "residing in housing owned, operated...by the institution" as students who live on campus are eligible to vote in this district.

Spirit of MLK Award Nominations

The 2012 MLK Committee is seeking nominations for the 2011 MLK Award. Annually, we award two people who have demonstrated peace, love, humility, integrity and honor while working with others. We are looking for people who have demonstrated these abilities on or off campus.

Please give this careful consideration and take the time to nominate one faculty or staff member and/or one student that you believe should receive special recognition for following in the spirit of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Self nominations are also accepted.

Please provide:
• Specific examples of how this person has represented peace, love, humility, integrity and honor while working with others
• Your name and contact information and the full name of the person/people that you are nominating along with their contact information.

Focused Conversation: Strategic Finance

Goliards to Raffle Rose Ensemble Concert Tickets

The Goliard Society of Medievalists will be tabling in Christensen Center all this week to raffle four pairs of tickets to the Rose Ensemble's "Slavic Wonders" Christmas Concert, December 22 or 23, 2011.

Tickets are $1, and are good for one chance to win a pair tickets to either Rose Ensemble concert. There are four chances to win. Prizes are valued at $74.

The drawing will be held December 9 at 10:40am in Hoversten Chapel, during the community time following Chapel. Winners need not be present to win. You must be 18 or older to purchase ticket or win prize. Winners are responsible for any applicable fees or taxes.

Phillips Scholarship for $16,500

The Phillips Scholars Program is administered by the Minnesota Private College Fund in partnership with the financial aid offices of 16 private colleges and universities. The program is funded by the Jay and Rose Phillips Family Foundation which recognizes and rewards private college students who strive to create a better life for those with unmet needs.

Selection criteria includes:
2.75+ GPA
Must be a sophomore in the 2011-2012 academic year
Demonstrate current financial need
Committed to designing and implementing your own community service project

Scholarship total including stipend is $16,500
Junior Year Scholarship $6,000
Senior Year Scholarship $6,000
Summer 2013 Stipend $4,000
Project Resource Funding $500

Open Your Bookstore Account Now

If you are planning on using a bookstore account to purchase your textbooks (or anything else in the bookstore), now is the time to open for the spring semester! Any money you had leftover from fall will roll over to spring. If you need to add money or open a new account, please visit the enrollment center's webpage and follow instructions to open your bookstore account. Two Hours of Bowling for $10!

On December 5th Augsburg students will be holding a bowling event open to all in order to raise money for TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors).

Pay a $10 admission and bowl as many games as you want from 7:00p-9:00p (shoes included)!

Goliard Winter Feast

The Goliard Society of Medievalists will be having a winter feast Sunday December 4th. It will be held in the Augsburg Room in Christensen Center at 7PM.

The first half hour will be a business meeting where we will discuss Mardi Gras Madrigals and other upcoming Goliard activities and events.

Then the fun begins! We will serve a medieval feast and we'll watch the movie Becket.

Tapas are small plates of delicious food which can be eaten as appetizers or combined to form a meal shared with friends. Similarly, our Technology Tapas are tasty bite-sized technology tips which will be presented in 5 to 10 minute segments. You can drop by for just one topic or stay to experience an entire workshop.

Qualtrics - This is a survey product that is available to all students and can be a powerful tool for research. Come and learn the ease and flexibility of this survey tool. Learn how to login, get started and experience some of the robust features it has to offer.

Webmail – This product is the email system we use at Augsburg. There are many ways to utilize Webmail beyond just basic emailing. Come find out what they are!

Atomic Learning - This is a collection of online training video tutorials for students. Come and learn how to access videos to teach you how to use everything from Word and Excel to Photoshop and Google Docs.

Vocatio Chapel with Nadia Najarro Smith

Please join us on Wednesday, December 7 at 10:20 a.m. as we continue the "All Shook Up: The Call to Change" Vocatio Chapel Series.

Our guest this month will be Ms. Nadia Najarro Smith. (Rescheduled from November.) A native of Guatemala, Ms. Najarro Smith is Spanish language certified court interpreter and translator with extensive legal education and experience. We hope you will be able to hear her story and engage in the ongoing discussion of how faith influences change and how change influences faith.
