Most Restrooms Will Be "All Gender" on Mon, Nov 21

On Monday, November 21, the majority of bathrooms on campus will be temporarily designated as "all gender" in order to commemorate Transgender Day of Remembrance. This means people of all gender identities may use these facilities.

Transgender Day of Remembrance honors all of those who have been the target of harassment or violence for being transgender or gender non-conforming. Converting the majority of restrooms on campus is aimed at highlighting the lack of gender-neutral facilities on campus, as well as the harassment many students, staff, faculty, and visitors encounter on campus and the greater community in areas such as gendered restrooms.

Gendered (female / male) restrooms can be found in the following locations on campus during the day:
• Basement of Foss Center
• Kennedy Center
• 3rd floor of Oren Gateway Center
• 3rd floor of Science Building

Queer and Straight in Unity also invites all students, staff, and faculty to a continued discussion around all-gender bathrooms and other issues facing transgender communities in that evening at 7:00pm in Marshall Room.

Minneapolis Campus Space Survey

Final two days to get in your opinion!

We have the opportunity to think together about campus space, specifically the Christensen Center. Last year, the Commission on Space and Master Planning (CSMP) identified the Christensen Center as a priority for building enhancements over the course of the next five years. We want to continue to refine Christensen as a vibrant campus center servicing all of Augsburg's diverse student populations, staff and faculty.

This opportunity arises now because of several factors:

1. The Admissions Offices (Day and Graduate) have moved to the first floor so there are spaces in Christensen Center that are available.
2. The Gage Center opened recently and will provide better space for key student services such as CLASS, Access, TRiO and Academic Enrichment.
3. Initial standardization in furnishing meeting rooms (see the Marshall Room) has begun.
4. Einstein Bagels renovations are now complete, allowing for enhanced food services.

Augsburg is committed to engaging students and campus community members in important work of the college, including work on campus space.

As with any project there are parameters and commitments and the Christensen Center is no exception. These include:
1. Einstein Bagels and the art galleries will not be renovated at this time.
2. There must be some sort of dining facility and kitchen located on the third floor.
3. Additional student services may be relocated to the Christensen Center
4. The Information Desk will remain on the main floor.
5. Work may be staged over a few years.

We need your reply by November 18, 2011. Thanks for your input!

Week of Kindness

This week, the week before Thanksgiving Nov. 14-18, Augsburg students, faculty, and staff will be able to participate in the Week of Kindness! There will be activities each day to show love and support for this community, see below:

Prepare to be complimented, appreciated, and bedazzled with kindness!

MUCH LOVE MONDAY: Walk by us in the Quad as we shout compliments to remind you how marvelous and beautiful you are. "Kindness Rally"

T-SHIRT TUESDAY: Wear that t-shirt of yours, or wear a handmade sign, that says "Free hugs!" and .. you guessed it... give and receive hugs free of charge. What is better than a free hug? I mean, really.

WARM YOUR HEART WEDNESDAY: Stop by our table and make kind cards for your friends to put in their mailboxes. Of course you can give cards in person too. We will provide stickers and sparkly cute things for the cards you make.

THANKFUL THURSDAY: Take time today to thank someone very special to you. It's all about the love, people!

FRIENDSHIP PHOTO FRIDAY: Make a friend and take a photo with them at our photo booth. We will take down your email address and send a copy of your photo of you and your new (or not new) friend!

This week is going to be so kind and awesome, you'll hardly know how to contain yourself. Be excited!
