Public Safety and Facilities Announcements

Ramp, Lane Closures will Affect Travel to, from Campus Starting Oct. 31

Members of the Augsburg community should prepare for additional traffic delays starting next week when I-94 exit ramps and lanes are closed for paving and other work.

The eastbound I-94 exit at 25th Ave./Riverside Ave. will be closed beginning at 11:59 p.m., Oct. 31 and running through at least Nov. 5. Detour signs are expected to be posted by MnDOT for motorists to follow. In order to get to the campus area, motorists will detour east on I-94 to Cretin Ave., where they will then exit and re-enter I-94 to head westbound back to the Riverside Ave. exit.

In addition, some lanes on I-94 will be closed during the day beginning Oct. 31 and running through at least Nov. 1 so the right lane of eastbound I-94 between Cedar Ave. and Huron Blvd can be resurfaced. Overnight closures of lanes in both directions will continue to happen as needed.

Motorists should plan extra time to get to and from campus and consider alternate transportation options. Alternates include Metro Transit light rail and bus lines. Discount transit passes are available through the Enrollment Center. The Nice Ride Minnesota bike station can be used for those who wish to commute by bike. In addition, the College has a telecommuting policy that may be worth exploring with your supervisor.

Finally, please note that there may be be increased traffic, including emergency vehicles, going through campus as a result of the I-94 and Riverside Ave. projects as people seek alternate ways to get to their destinations. Pedestrians are advised to use cross walks and exercise caution when crossing streets on campus during the construction period.

For official project information visit http://www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/projects/i94resurfacing/phase2.html. For real-time traveler information anywhere in Minnesota visit www.511mn.org or dial 5-1-1.

General Announcements

All Saints Day, November 1, 2011

We invite you to a special chapel on Tuesday, November 1st at 11:20am, when the Augsburg Community celebrates All Saints' Day. On this festival of All Saints' we remember with thanksgiving those who have died this past year. They are a sign of hope. Even more, they are worshipers with us this day as we sing praises of God who brings life out of death.

During the worship service, we will read aloud your loved one's name and remember them with the lighting of a candle and with prayer. The custom of commemorating all of the saints on a single day goes back at least to the third century. All Saint's Day celebrates the people of God, living and dead, who make up the body of Christ. On this day, together with congregations throughout the world, we remember the faithful who have died this past year.

If you have not already sent us the name of your loved one please email hakola@augsburg.edu by Monday, October 31st.

Gage Family Art Gallery - Exhibition Open

Impressions of China
Gary Erickson

Gage Family Art Gallery
Exhibition Dates: October 31 – December 16, 2011

Opening Reception: Friday, November 11, 6 – 8 p.m.
Artist Talk: Thursday, November 10, noon, Adeline Johnson Conference Center

Gary Erickson's exhibition features architectural tiles that incorporate and expand on the traditional Chinese technique of stamped impressions and under-glaze decals. Inspired by his travels to Jingdezhen, China, Erickson alters, cuts, and masks the decals in a process similar to printmaking to create a layered effect on the tiles as he explores imagery from his travels and nature.

Gary Erickson received his B.F.A from Hamline University, MN and continued his studies at New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, NY, where he received his M.F.A. Erickson's work can be found in many private and public collections, including the National Museum of American Art/Smithsonian Institutions Renwick Gallery in Washington D.C., Cuban Institute of Friendship with the People in Santiago de Cuba, Jingdezhen Sanbao Ceramic Art Institute in Jingdezhen, China, and the Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN. He has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, McKnight Foundation, Jerome Foundation, and the Minnesota State Arts Board. Erickson is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Art-Ceramics at Macalester College, MN and works from his Minneapolis studio.
