Focused Conversation: Campus Facilities Updates

The Campus Space and Master Plan that was approved by the Board of Regents last May calls out the need for the College to establish an infrastructure to best manage our physical assets that establishes:
• standards for furniture, fixtures, and equipment for common meeting areas and work spaces;
• planning to allow for the appropriate handling of deferred maintenance needs;
• action plans to remodel the second floor of the library to support students' academic success (Gage Center);
• planning to increase the utilization of the space in the lower level of the Christensen Center (A-Club Grill); and,
• a framework to be followed when assigning space to various departments or individuals.

Please join us for a Focused Conversation relative to the above which will include an overview of the work that has commenced over the summer months, particularly relative to the Mortensen renovations, Library shifts to the lower level, Gage Center build out on the second floor of the library, and A-Club Grill/Admissions renovation work in the Christensen Center.

For those of you that were unable to attend the August 29th focused conversation we have scheduled another session.
When: September 14, 2011
Time: 2:00- 3:00 p.m.
Where: Marshall Room, Christensen Center

If you have any questions prior to the meeting, please contact David Draus on extension x1033.

LGBTQIA Student Leadership Retreat Registration

The first-ever LGBTQIA Student Leadership Retreat will be taking place Friday, September 16 through Sunday, September 18! The retreat is completely free (including transportation, lodging, and food) and open to all LGBTQIA- and ally-identified students from Augsburg, Hamline, Macalester, St. Kate's and St. Thomas.

This retreat will focus on leadership development, small-group facilitation skills, action planning, and exploring intersecting identities and oppressions through a social justice lens. It’s also a great way to make new friends and meet new people!

Students will depart around 1pm on Friday, September 16 and return around 4pm on Sunday, September 18. Because there is limited space, if you would like to attend the LGBTQIA Student Leadership Retreat, it is required that you commit to the entire weekend.

The deadline to register is Wednesday, September 14. For more information or for registration materials, please email Michael Grewe, LGBTQIA Services Coordinator, at grewe@augsburg.edu.

Augsburg Speech Team Wants You

Those of you who were on your high school speech team know all about forensics--and those of you who weren't, should! There will be an opening meeting for the Augsburg Speech Team this Thursday, September 8, from 3:30-4:30 in Oren Gateway 100. Anyone who'd like to find out how to achieve fame and glory by talking to others should attend. A speech team information packet will be distributed; speech team T-shirts and baseball caps will be raffled off to lucky winners; and refreshments will be provided. Anyone is welcome--if you get a chance, RSVP to Director of Forensics David Lapakko (lapakko@augsburg.edu) so he knows how much food to order. But "last-minute walk-ins" are also encouraged!

Nanny Needed

Friend looking for a nanny!
Looking for someone on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 12:30 until 3:30 or 4.
The individual would need to have a car and pick my daughter up at school (Mayflower church/Mpls/right off of 35W on Diamond Lake Road) and bring her to our house until I got home.
We live only a couple miles from the church.
My daughter actually still naps so this would be a pretty easy gig---great time to study!!
I can pay around $8/hour so it would be about $50-60/wk. NEGOTIABLE!
I know these hours might be tough for a college student--maybe I would need two different people??
