As always, we look forward to seeing and reading your works.

Online Timecards Need Approvals - Effective March 21

Important changes for all students, staff and faculty currently using Web Time Entry for timesheets

We have been on the new online Web Time Entry system for 6 pay periods and have solved most of the problems students and biweekly employees have experienced using the system.

Thus far, employees have been paid for their hours whether or not their timecards were approved. Now that employees have been using the system, it is time to begin requiring managers and employees to approve hours before they can be paid. Back in the "old days" of paper timesheets, we did not pay for hours on timesheets that were not signed off by employees and supervisors. It is time to reinforce that policy again.

Effective this current pay period of 03/21/10 – 4/3/10 (for payday Friday, 4/9/10), any time sheet not approved by the employee AND the manager will not be paid until approved. Any time sheets approved after the 12noon deadline on Tuesday will be added to the next payroll 2 weeks later. Always ensure you are approving the correct pay period. If you are approving the timesheet on Monday, you will need to make sure your are approving the "previous pay period."

Timecards with no hours also need to be approved by both employee and manager. If the employee is no longer working in the position, the manager needs to send an e-mail to hr@augsburg.edu to let us know.

To check if the timecard has been approved, click on the Sign-offs & Approvals tab in the lower left section of the timecard. This lists all sign-offs and approvals and when they approved them. If there is no Sign-offs & Approvals tab, there have been no approvals.

Managers can check for approval as above, or by clicking on the Timekeeping tab, then Pay Period Close. Once the list of employees appears, check the appropriate columns for check marks. If no check mark, it hasn't been done.

If you are still having trouble with using the Web Time Entry system, please contact HR at ext 1058.

Open Season Documentary

A Hmong immigrant is convicted of killing six white hunters in a violent confrontation during deer hunting season in northwestern Wisconsin. Was it a racial incident? Was it the random act of a madman? Part courtroom drama, part intimate portrait, this hour-long documentary looks at the root causes and the reverberating impacts of this tragedy, seeking to bring understanding to the racial, cultural, and economic tensions in America's heartland.

Co-directors Mark Tang and Lu Lippold are seeking finishing funds so that this documentary can be shown on public television and at film festivals. They hope to raise $12,000 for the following editing, distribution, and broadcast requirements: final broadcast edit and graphics, legal/copyright fees, musical score, publicity, errors & omissions insurance, and distribution costs. Every contribution helps us to reach our goal! All contributors' names will appear in the final credits.

Saturday, March 27 6 p.m. Marshall Room

Vincent Who?

*** WINNER OF THE 2009 Media Award from the National Association for Multicultural Education ***

VINCENT WHO? (40 minutes) - In 1982, Vincent Chin was murdered in Detroit by two white auto workers at the height of anti-Japanese sentiments. For the first time, Asian Americans around the country galvanized to form a real community and movement. This documentary, inspired by a series of town halls organized by Asian Pacific Americans for Progress on the 25th anniversary of the case, features interviews with the key players at the time, as well as a whole new generation of activists. "Vincent Who?" asks how far Asian Americans have come since then and how far we have yet to go.

Featured interviews include: Helen Zia (lead activist during the Chin trial), Renee Tajima Pena (director, "Who Killed Vincent Chin?"), Stewart Kwoh (Executive Director, Asian Pacific American Legal Center), Lisa Ling (journalist), Sumi Pendakur (Univ. of Southern California), Dale Minami (civic rights attorney), Frank Wu (former Dean, Wayne State Law School), Doua Thor (Executive Director, Southeast Asian Resource Action Center) and a group of five diverse young APA activists whose lives were impacted by Vincent Chin.
