New Campus Posting Policy

Augsburg College official student groups and organizations, staff and faculty may use college space to publicize events and meetings. The new policy asks that individuals post "only where marked" rather than the old policy which permitted "posting anywhere except in certain spots.

As before, all postings must be approved and dated by staff at the Christensen Center Information Desk (M-F, 8 am – 6 pm and Saturdays, 8 am – 12 noon).

A maximum of 20 will be stamped and approved for posting on campus. that is the total number of spots we have provided through designated posting strips, bulletin boards and kiosks.

Posting is not permitted on any other surface or space, such as glass, doors, or painted walls.
Posters/flyers must be put up using push pins, tacks or staples; no duct tape, permanent adhesives, or tape. Organizations will be charged for damages to walls and surfaces and we ask individuals and organizations are responsible for removal of their materials.

No flyers are permitted on cars in Augsburg College parking lots. (City of Minneapolis, Ordinance 403.10)

There is a Community events/notices (including buy/sell and help wanted) board in the Christensen Center main floor near the restrooms.

Contact Campus Activities and Orientation for assistance with publicity ideas, sidewalk chalking, floor signs, or painting windows. For special events, contact Event and Conference Planning.

Residence Hall posting: all posters and flyers must be approved by Residence Life staff. Contact Residence Life at reslife@augsburg.edu or 612-330-1488.

A copy of the policy and a list of posting places is available at the Information Desk.

Go-To College Pass vs Metropass

The Metropass program is only for faculty and staff and obligates participants to pay for a full year of pass use at $38.00 per month. The Go-To College pass is only for students and is available by semesters only at $150 for fall and spring semesters and $75 for summer semester. Students cannot purchase the Metropass and faculty and staff cannot participate in the Go-To College pass program.

Faculty and staff should sign up for their Metropass as soon as possible to make an easier transition from the monthly passes which are no longer available. Metropass is good for all light rail and bus trips in the metro area, every day, all day. A new Metropass will be delivered within 2 -3 weeks of signing up.

The cash value cards will still be available at the same 50% discount as before. Cash value cards are available for faculty, staff and students but only one can be purchased at a time. Cash value cards are not to be purchased for family members or friends - only for Augsburg faculty, staff or students.

Spirituality Breakfast-Thursday, Sept. 10, 7:30 a.m.

Looking for a spiritual start to your day? The StepUP® Program at Augsburg College is hosting the annual kick-off event for Recovery Month, the Spirituality Breakfast. It will be held on Thursday, September 10th from 7:30 – 9:00am, in the East Commons of the Christensen Center. This program is open to Augsburg faculty, staff and students and the general public. The breakfast and program is FREE and interested attendees must RSVP to Anne Grove in the StepUP office, 612-330-1692.

We hosted 125 attendees at last year's event where supporters were able to share their spiritual journey and vocations in recovery. This year's keynote speaker will be Brenda Iliff, the clinical director at the Hazelden Women's Center, and StepUP students will also be speak about how recovery has affected their life.

This September is the 20th anniversary of National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT). The purpose of Recovery Month is to promote the societal benefits of alcohol and drug addiction treatment, to laud the contributions of treatment providers, and to promote the message that recovery from alcohol and drug disorders in all its forms is possible.

Opening Day Activities, 2009-10 Academic Year

Summer may be coming to a close, but I look forward to the start of another exciting academic year. Staff members have been busy hosting Augsburg's booth at the State Fair - please stop by to greet us when you come to the Fair!

Our kick-off to this year's Day school begins with Opening Convocation, scheduled on Tuesday, September 8th, at 10:30 am in the Hoversten Chapel. All are most welcome and invited to attend!

In an event to be mirrored at Commencement in four years, first-year students will process into Chapel to the drumming of Professor Robert Stacke. Faculty should wear academic gowns and line up outside of Foss by 10:00 a.m. Convocation will begin at 10:30.

Following the convocation all are invited to lunch on the quad (students and their AugSem/Orientation Leaders will lead the lines in order to give them time for lunch before leaving for afternoon activities). At 12:30 pm students will meet in Murphy Park to leave for afternoon Community Service activities, and then gather again for dinner on the quad. Faculty and staff are invited to join students for dinner.

On Saturday, September 12th we will welcome new and returning Weekend College and Graduate Program students with a lunch on the quad. I encourage faculty and staff to join our students for lunch, and live music between 11:30 am - 1:15 pm as we celebrate the beginning of the academic year.

My best wishes for the remainder of your summer - and safe travels back to Augsburg.

Joe Mauer Bobblehead and NF Research

Thank you once again to all of you who have sponsored my marathon by donating to the Children's Tumor Foundation. Just when I thought the raffle drawing was done with, Joe Mauer and his family graciously sent me a signed bobblehead to give to one lucky donor. My goal this year was to raise $2,000 dollars to help find a cure for Neurofibromatosis and Joe is going to help me do it. Any donation of $20 or more between now and September 30 will make you eligible in the drawing for the signed bobblehead. To find out more about why I am raising money for Neurofibromatosis or to find out how to donate check out this web site:

Truly thanks again so much for your support.
