Teaching and Learning

When is the Assignment Due? (Syllabus Workshop)

Do students often ask this and other questions in your class? While these questions can't be eliminated, they can be reduced by having clear and well-written syllabi.

The Center for Teaching and Learning will be offering two sessions of a syllabus writing workshop taught by Diane Pike. The two sessions will be offered in Lindell 202 on:

Thursday May 14 from 9-11
Wednesday, May 27 from 3-5.

If you would like to get tips on creating a clearer and more effective syllabus, please plan on attending either of these workshops. RSVP to spargo@augsburg.edu.

Fulbright Program Officer in St. Paul

Our colleagues at Macalester College have extended an invitation for us to attend a meeting with a Program Officer discussing Fulbright.

Date: Tuesday, May 19
Time: 8:30-10 a.m.
Where: Macalester College, Weyerhaeuser Hall in the Weyerhaeuser Board Room

The workshop is an excellent opportunity for you to learn more about the Fulbright Scholar programs for U.S. faculty and professionals. Ms. Cunniffe will outline the program requirements and specifics, discuss reasons to consider a Fulbright, and detail what it takes to prepare a competitive proposal. She will also discuss programs that bring Fulbright Visiting Scholars to the U.S. and other Fulbright programs. The workshop will include ample time for questions and discussion of your particular topics or concerns. The chance to have a free give and take session with a Fulbright representative is a great advantage to having Ms. Cunniffe visit. Please let me know ( forbes@augsburg.edu ) if you plan to attend so I can inform our hosts of the expected number from Augsburg.

Vickijoan in 2 Short Plays at Bedlam Theatre

Hi Folks! Copy lady Vicki Keck is performing in Bedlam Theatre's 10 minute play fest again this year—I think it's the 4th one I've been involved with. This year they are doing 28 plays I think, 4 sets of 7 plays each. I am in 2 shows this year: The Biopsy by Monica Raymond (in set C) and Full Count by Hardy Coleman (in set D). Bedlam is definitely not your typical theater experience—they are cutting edge and funky and not afraid to push the envelope! The shows I am in are traditional plays, but they will also be doing a lot of movement pieces and avant guarde stuff. I would love to see you there!

Ticket prices are one set =$10, 2 sets = $15, Punch card for all 4 = $20. Check out Bedlam's website for more info, www.bedlamtheatre.org

Housesitting from AZ

My name is David Miller. I live in Mesa, AZ. I am 65 years old and retired. My wife and I are looking for a place to house sit in Minneapolis for the months of June, July and August, if a professor or administrator might be traveling for the summer. I worked in the electric utility industry for 23 years in Risk Management. My wife's mother is very ill in the Mount Olivet Care Center near 55th and Lyndale. We would prefer something in that general area but are not limited to that area. If anyone is interested I can be contacted at davidemiller@cox.net or by phone at 480-985-6756 or cell phone 480-242-4064. Thank you for your consideration.
