Security and Facilities Announcements

Beverage Vending Prices

Over the next couple of weeks beverage vending machine prices will be increasing from $1.25/item to $1.50/item. This vending increase is necessary to offset the recent increase of product cost being placed in the machines. The new beverage vending machine pricing will be consistent with other resources on campus selling bottled beverages.

Augsburg's 2006-08 Drug Free Schools Report

The Drug Free Schools and Communities Act of 1989 (Public Law 101-226) requires post-secondary institutions to adopt a program to prevent the unlawful possession, use and distribution of illicit drugs and alcohol by members of the college community. In further compliance with this requirement, post-secondary institutions must provide to each student and employee materials that describe standards of conduct, information about health risks associated with the use of illicit drugs and the abuse of alcohol, a description of applicable legal sanctions under local, state, or federal law, a description of applicable counseling, treatment, or rehabilitation or re-entry programs, and a clear statement of the disciplinary sanctions the institution will impose on students and employees, and a description of those sanctions.

Augsburg's Drug Free Schools 2006-2008 Report is available in my public folder. Reports for 1996-98, 1998-2000, 2000-2002, 2002-2004, and 2004-2006 are also available in my public folder.

Work on the 2008-2010 Drug Free Schools Plan continues and I will provide a copy of that plan as fall semester/trimester classes begin.

Please let me know if you have questions.

Welcome Weekend

The Augsburg for Adults office is organizing a "Welcome Weekend" event where we invite faculty, staff, administrators and student leaders to greet new and returning undergraduate and graduate adult students and guide them to their classes.

Our last several Welcome Weekends were very successful; as students appreciated the warmth and individual attention they received from participants. We hope to duplicate that success with your help.

For the fall trimester, we have three different shifts to choose from:

Friday, September 5, 2008: 5:00-6:30 p.m.
Saturday, September 6, 2008: 7:30-9:00 a.m.
Saturday, September 6, 2008: 11:00 a.m. -12:00 noon (to guide students to Convocation)

As a reminder, Opening Convocation takes place on Saturday, September 6, at 12:00 noon in the Hoversten Chapel.

If you are interested in creating a welcoming atmosphere for our new and continuing students, please contact me with your shift preference at foxwilso@augsburg.edu. I will contact participants with more information.

Changes to Student Wireless Network on Aug. 18

On Monday, Aug. 18, the Aug-Student wireless network will begin requiring Windows computers to have recognized, up-to-date anti-virus software installed. (This will not affect Apple computers, and will not affect the Aug-Guest wireless network).

If your computer has valid anti-virus software already installed, you will not notice any changes -- just log in through Clean Access as you have been doing.

If your computer does not have valid anti-virus software installed, the Clean Access Agent will prompt you to install or update your software before allowing you to access the Internet. A list of recognized anti-virus products (including some free options) is available on the Student Technology web site at http://www.augsburg.edu/techdesk/internet/Clean_Access_Recogni.html

If you have questions about this change or would like help making sure your computer meets the requirements, please contact the TechDesk! We're here to assist students with their technology needs. We're available in person (Lindell Library 104), on the phone (612-330-1400), by e-mail at techdesk@augsburg.edu , and on the web at http://www.augsburg.edu/techdesk for your convenience.
