During this graduation week, Lindell Library will be open:
Thursday, May 1 -- 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Friday, May 2 -- 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Saturday, May 3 -- 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Sunday, May 4 -- Noon - 6 p.m.

Regular summer hours begin May 5:

Thursday, May 1
Commencement Rehearsal: 4:30 p.m. in Si Melby

Saturday, May 3
Eucharist: 8 a.m. in Hoversten Chapel

Baccalaureate: 9 a.m. in Hoversten Chapel
Arrive at 8:40 a.m. (wearing cap and gown) and line-up in the hallway leading from the atrium of Foss to the Music Building. The procession will lead you in double file up the center aisle of the Chapel.

Commencement Ceremony: 11 a.m. in Si Melby Hall
Arrive at 10:10 a.m. in Christensen Center (wearing cap and gown). In case of rain, line-up will be held in the basement of Si Melby. A decision will be made by 8 a.m.

Commencement receptions following ceremony:

Academic Attire: Academic dress (cap and gown) are worn for both the Baccalaureate service and the Commencement ceremony. Caps and gowns are purchased at the bookstore.
• Gowns are worn closed without jewelry or flowers
• Honor cords are worn around the neck
• Caps are worn with the mortarboard flat and parallel to the floor. Tassels are worn to the right throughout the day

Photography: Arrangements have been made with Chappell Studios to take your photo as you receive your degree. Proofs and purchase information will be mailed to you after Commencement. You are under no obligation to purchase. Chappell’s phone number is 1-800-424-3686.

Bookstore Hours: The bookstore hours on Saturday, May 3 are 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Parking: Please advise your family and friends to arrive early to allow time to park. Faculty and staff parking lots are available for guests on Commencement weekend. On-street parking is monitored by the City of Minneapolis during Commencement weekend. Parking is available, for a fee, in the Fairview/Riverside ramp.

Bulk Sale Pick Up

Sexual Assault Advocate/Educator Opportunity

Are you interested in issues of sexual assault and relationship violence? Wanting to offer peer support to survivors, or wanting to increase awareness on the Augsburg campus about these issues? Wanting a great training opportunity that will provide real experience in the field of psychology/social services? The Aurora Center at the University of Minnesota is opening their trained peer Crisis Line, Legal Advocate and/or Violence Prevention Educator volunteer opportunities to Augsburg students. Augsburg students could bring their learning back to the Augsburg community through educational programs, or provide crisis and advocacy support to U of M and Augsburg students who have experienced sexual assault and other relationship violence.

The next Volunteer Training will be May 27 - June 6 (for Crisis Line or Legal Advocates) or May 27 - June 3 (for Violence Prevention Educators). Two Scholarships

Free Money!

1. Tylenol Scholarship

Training qualified people to work in health-related fields is critical to achieving America’s high standards of healthcare. However, education costs are rising steeply, making it increasingly difficult for some of you to and your parents to keep up. That’s why Tylenol is continuing their annual scholarship program.

In 2009, the maker of Tylenol (pain killer) will be awarding a total of $250,000 in scholarship money to outstanding students who are pursuing health-related studies. Apply online at www.tylenol.com/scholarship, access key TYNL. Applications must be submitted by May 15, 2008.

2. Mike Augustin Scholarship

The Mike Augustin scholarship fund has been created in honor of the former St. Paul Pioneer Press sports writer. Mr. Augustin covered Minnesota sports for many years. He was especially fond of the Minnesota private schools and their emphasis on a liberal arts education. Believing in the importance of acknowledging the fine accomplishments of those who dedicate both time and energy in being a student, the Mike Augustin scholarship fund is offering four $500 scholarships to qualified applicants.

Qualification requirements include:
1. Must be a Junior or Senior, full-time college status for the enrollment year;
2. Must have a major in the field of communication studies or education;
3. Must be enrolled in a 4-year private college or university in the state of MN;
4. Must have a GPA of 3.0 or above

Application requirements include:
1. Submit a 1 page essay that includes your goals and future professional aspirations in your field of study. You may want to include an experience that has been important in clarifying or strengthening your motivation for a career in communication studies or education.
2. Provide a current college transcript.
3. Provide one letter of recommendation.
4. Completion of included application (please copy and paste application below).
5. Complete applications must be received by June 1 of the enrollment year.
6. Previous winners are not eligible.

Auggie Softball in MIAC Playoffs!

Augsburg's softball team will compete for the first time in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Playoffs, which will be held Friday and Saturday (5/2-3) at Rice Creek Fields in Shoreview.

Action starts on Friday at 3 p.m., as No. 4-seed Augsburg faces top-seed St. Thomas, the No. 4-ranked team in the country. Gustavus and Hamline will face off in the other first-round game at 3 p.m. The winners and losers of the first-round games will meet at 5 p.m. in the double-elimination tournament. Games continue on Saturday starting at 11 a.m.

To get to Rice Creek Fields from Augsburg, take I-35W north to the County Road J/85th Avenue exit. Take a right onto 85th Avenue, and a right onto Rice Creek Drive. The field will be about a half-mile south on the left side. (exact address for Google Maps/Mapquest users: 5880 Rice Creek Parkway, Shoreview, MN 55126).

Classifieds

Help a Student and Win $100

Cause: It is a fundraiser to support a students international studies. I plan on studying abroad this summer in Oslo, Norway and the total cost of the trip is just about $6,000. My final step in making this trip a reality will be purchasing my $1,300 plane ticket. The raffle is an attempt to minimize cost.
