Commencement Volunteers Still Needed

As you may know, we host over 4000 people on campus during each of the commencement weekends, and holding an event of that size requires help from a really large number of people. In order to provide the best possible experience for our students and their families, please consider volunteering during Commencement weekend.

Many positions including ticket-taking, ushering and flag bearers are still needed! Most positions would be from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 3.

If you are able to help, or would like additional information, please contact Jodi Collen in the Event & Conference Planning Department at collen@augsburg.edu or at x1107.

Thank you so much for volunteering!

StepUP Program - Faculty and Staff Survey

The StepUP® Program has an eleven year history of Augsburg College faculty and staff support and strength. The success of the Program is grounded in the developing environment present at the institution. This leads to the uniqueness of the Program which has the outstanding reputation of being the largest of its kind in the country. Augsburg College integrates this intentional recovery focus in our Drug Free Schools Plan.

In the next eight weeks, the StepUP Program team members will gather information from faculty and staff. We will help to identify colleagues who recognize the importance of recovery services as integral to the campus environment of alcohol, drug and violence prevention programs and intend to create a coalition which will produce a document describing the value of the Program from the a faculty and staff perspective.

The College Recovery Coalition (CRC) will explore recovering student’s interaction with faculty and staff, learning environments across the campus, and summarize concerns and assets that young adults in recovery bring to the collegiate community. The coalition will be composed of faculty and staff who are supporters and advocates of recovery from alcohol and other drugs.

Diercks to Join Augsburg Athletic Administration

Kelly Anderson Diercks to join Augsburg athletic administration as assistant athletic director
http://www.augsburg.edu/athletics/sportsnews/042808diercks.html

MINNEAPOLIS (4/28/08) -- Kelly Anderson Diercks (Gustavus Adolphus '05), who has served as assistant director for the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for the past two years, will join the Augsburg College athletic administration as an assistant athletic director, starting on July 1.

Diercks has served as an administrator in the MIAC office since January 2006, first as an intern and since August 2006 as assistant director under a two-year NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority and Women's Internship Grant. In her role at the conference office, Diercks has performed a variety of roles, including compliance, eligibility, rules interpretations and education, co-advisor of the conference's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and coordinator for the conference's officials evaluation program. She has also supervised the NCAA strategic initiatives grant, organized the MIAC's sportsmanship initiative, coordinated conference awards, and led the MIAC's 25th anniversary of women's athletics celebration. She has also performed conference sports information duties, such as creating weekly releases, media guides and updating the conference website.

"I think Kelly is going to be a key component in our athletic department as we move forward," said Augsburg athletic director Jeff Swenson. "She brings to the table an incredible array of skills in many areas. Her energy and enthusiasm are contagious, and we look forward to her joining us."

In her position at Augsburg, Diercks will serve as a compliance officer, staff liaison to the college's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee chapter, department grant-writer and marketing specialist. She will also serve as an assistant sports information director and assistant senior women's administrator.

Diercks is currently pursuing her master's degree from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in kinesiology with an emphasis in sport management. A magna cum laude graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College (business management major, coaching minor), Diercks was a two-year member of the Gustie softball team and a team captain her senior year. She also served as a student staff supervisor in the college's athletic center.

In 2005, she served as an athletic marketing and promotions intern at North Dakota State University, prior to her service in the MIAC office. She has also served on the media relations and event staff at numerous MIAC and NCAA regional and national championship events in the Midwest. This year, she also served on the organizing, awards and communication/PR committees for Minnesota's National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration.

Diercks and her husband, Matt, live in Eagan, Minn.
