Subject: The calm before the storm - Campus Kitchen
Submitter:
Brian Noy, Campus Kitchen Coordinator, Center for Service, Work and Learning

Message: The Campus Kitchen needs volunteers during this calm period before students pick back up after the first week or two of classes. This happens to be one of the more exciting periods of cooking in the kitchen as local and organic seasonal vegetables are coming in (learn what Kohlrabi is!)

We could use a hand particularily during the following shifts:

Cooking, Wednesdays 7-9 pm
Meal delivery, Thursdays 11-1, 3:30-5 pm

To sign up, e-mail campuskitchen@augsburg.edu or call Brian at 612-330-1624

Subject: Flavor: Sample the City Event at Augsburg
Submitter:
Will O'Berry, Asst. Dir., Campus Activities & Orientation/Coord LGBTQIA Srv, Campus Activities and Orientation

Message: The Department of Campus Activities and Orientation is in the process of planning an event for Auggie Days entitled "Flavor: Sample the City." This event will be a fair in which the Augsburg community will be able to sample items from surrounding businesses and establishments. We hope that this event will give our students a broad perspective on what our vibrant community has to offer.

This event will take place on Monday, September 3 from 3 - 6 pm and will be located on the Foss Lawn on the corner of 22nd Avenue and Riverside Avenue. Check-in will be located there beginning at 2:30 pm.

In addition to the area businesses we have contacted we would like to welcome folks from the Augsburg community to join in this event. If you create art, cook, or own a small business and can feature some free items at an event like this, then please do so.

Simply fill out and return the following form to reserve a table: http://web.augsburg.edu/~oberry/Flavor_Sample_the_City_Reservation_Form.doc

Please do not hesitate to contact Will O'Berry at x1499 with any questions or concerns.

Subject: SOUTHEASTERN MINNESOTA FLOOD DISASTER
Submitter:
Laurel Christianson, Administrative Assistant, Student Affairs

Message: Residents in southeastern Minnesota are working to recover from this weekend’s flash flooding, perhaps the largest in state history. At least six people have died and several thousand have been driven from homes that have been destroyed or have sustained major damage.

Minnesota counties affected by the flooding are Winona, Wabasha, Fillmore, Houston, Steele, and Olmsted. The Governor has declared a state of emergency for these six counties. At present there has not been a call for volunteers, but one is expected in the next few days. Until there is a request, you can help by contacting one of the following organizations: ELCA Disaster Response, Red Cross Twin Cities, Salvation Army, United Way, and Nechama. Links to contact information are provided on the Inside Augsburg page under “Campus News: Flood Disaster Information.”

Although Augsburg College draws students nationally and internationally, many hail from Minnesota. We, as a college, understand this tragedy may personally have affected a number of you. If you or someone you know has been impacted by this disaster, please call the Office of Student Affairs at x1160. For additional support and assistance contact Campus Ministry (x1732) or Counseling & Health Promotion (x1707).
