Subject: Security Alert: Robbery on footbridge over I-94

Submitter:
John Pack, Director, Public Safety

Message: Augsburg’s Department of Public Safety would like you to be aware of a robbery that occurred early in the morning of May 3, 2007. Between 1:00 am and 1:10 am, two students were robbed while crossing the footbridge over I-94. The students were approached from behind and unable to provide a useful description of their assailants. One student reported seeing a gun. The students immediately notified Augsburg Public Safety who in turn notified the Minneapolis Police. Police officers search the area but were unable to locate the suspects.

If you have any information regarding this crime, please contact the Minneapolis Police department or Augsburg’s Department of Public Safety. For Police emergencies, you can call 911 from any phone. For non-emergency police service, call 311 from and off campus phone of 9-311 from an on-campus phone. You can reach Augsburg’s Department of Public Safety all day, every day by calling x1717 from any on-campus phone or 612-330-1717 from any off-campus phone.

DPD encourages everyone to be mindful of the following tips:
• Report suspicious behavior to the Department of Public Safety at x1717.
• Request an escort from Augsburg DPS by calling x1717.
• Walk in groups of two or more, particularly in the evenings.
• Stick to well lit and well traveled routes.
• Alcohol impairs your senses and your judgment. You are more likely to be a victim of crime if you are under the influence of alcohol.
• When going out, only carry the cash and credit cards you will need. Leave unneeded valuables at home.
• Do not hesitate to call Public Safety or the Police if strangers confront you.

Working together, we can prevent crime at Augsburg.

Subject: Spring Day Grades Due Friday, May 11

Submitter:
Wayne Kallestad, Registrar, Registrar's Office

Message: GRADES ARE DUE ON OR BEFORE May 11, 2007.

Do not turn in grades late. Late grades cause problems for students requiring the grades for reimbursement, scholarship, graduation and admission to other programs.

GRADE ENTRY SCREEN
* Report a grade for every student on the list (except where - W - is displayed).
* For students from one of the other ACTC colleges, please provide the Registrar’s Office with their grade.
* Please enter grades by May 11, 2007 or earlier! PLEASE NO LATE GRADES!
* Please identify students that have stopped attending class and the date of last attendance.

Please contact your departments Liaison for Computing person if you have a question on your PIN. For those needing specific directions, they are available on-line at:

http://www.augsburg.edu/enroll/registrar/index.html

Click on Faculty Grade Entry Procedures, other useful information can be found by clicking on Registrar’s New Faculty Handbook also.

Letter grades (ABCDF) are not used except for ACTC students. The following grading system is in effect:
4.0 Achieves highest standards of excellence
3.5
3.0 Achieves above basic course standards
2.5
2.0 Achieves basic standards for course
1.5
1.0 Performance below basic course standards
0.5
0.0 Unacceptable performance (no credit for the course)
P (2.0 or above) Meets minimum passing standard
N (Below 2.0) Does not meet minimum passing standard (no credit and non-punitive: not computed in grade point average)

If a student fails to report for a final examination, he or she should
receive a grade of 0.0 for that examination when you compute the final grade.

INCOMPLETE GRADES

* An incomplete grade, or - I, should be given only in the case of extreme emergency. To receive an incomplete grade, a student must receive permission of the instructor of the course; must file a form (available in the Enrollment Center or on-line at the above web address) stating the reasons for the request, the work required to complete the course, the plan and date for completing the work, and comments from the instructor; and must return the form to the Registrar's Office by the time grades are due for the term (May 11, 2007).
* The necessary work must be completed in enough time to allow evaluation of the work by the instructor and filing of a grade before the final day of the following Semester.
* If the work is not completed by that date, the grade for the course becomes a 0.0.

DIRECTED STUDY, INDEPENDENT STUDY, OR INTERNSHIP

* If a Directed Study, Independent Study, or Internship is to be extended over a second term, indicate this by a grade of - X. Please remind students receiving an - X - that they are expected to continue communication and demonstrate satisfactory progress with their instructor in order to receive a credit and grade at the end of that term. They must complete the study within one year of their initial registration; after that, a new registration is necessary.

* An - X - grade can only be used for a Directed Study, Independent Study, and Internship unless prior arrangements have been made with the Registrar's Office.

AUDIT

Please inform the Registrar’s Office via email if expectations not met for a student auditing your class. A - V - (audit) is listed on the grade entry screen. If expectations have been met, the course will be listed on the student's record as having been audited. If expectations have not been met, the course will be listed with a grade of - W (withdrawn).

VERY IMPORTANT

Grade are due in the Office of the Registrar no later than May 11, 2007. To comply with Federal Student Aid Regulations: If you have a student that stopped attending your class and you have assigned a grade of 0.0 or - N, please enter the date they last attended your class. Thank You.

Submitter:
Karen T. Sutherland, Professor, Computer Science

Message: One of the Department of Computer Science's Sony Memory Sticks with USB reader was likely misplaced on campus about March 30.

The reader is an MSAC-US40. The stick is pink in color and 16MB. The stick is needed for our robot work and is no longer available, so we cannot replace it.

If you find it, you can keep the reader as a reward for returning the stick.
