Subject: Feeling overwhelmed by debt?

Message: Back in March Augsburg College hosted an event to raise awareness about responsible financial habits called the “What’s My Score?” campaign.

What’s My Score is sponsored by the Responsible Credit Project and this nonprofit agency has been approached by the New York Times to do an article on student credit card and loan burdens. The organization is looking for students who are willing to be interviewed for an article. If you would like to share your story about living with debt, feel free to email Erin Sapp at the Responsible Credit Project at erin@whatsmyscore.org.

Message: Minnesota Public Radio's Dan Olson recently interviewed Robert Bill, Liaison for Computing (IT), on his recent trip to Burma, where he met with pro democratic activists, showing them how to get news from the inside of their country to the rest of the outside world. According to the interview, there is currently a "lid on the free flow of information" in Burma.

Subject: Sad news about a student's family

Message: Please keep Augsburg student Darrell Young and his family in your prayers. His younger brother, Sterling Horton, age 17, was killed on Tuesday, July 25.

At this difficult time, the family would appreciate financial support to help with funeral costs. Contributions can be directed to Trena Bolden Fields at Campus Box 38. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 29, 11 a.m. at Shiloh Temple International Ministries-1201 W. Broadway Avenue N., Minneapolis. Wake services will be held on Friday, July 28 from 5-8 p.m. -Place TBA.

Message: Augsburg Psychology Professor Nancy Steblay's research on eyewitness identification procedures is featured on the Innocence Project website in an article titled, "Study of Year-Long Pilot Project Shows That Key Eyewitness Identification Reforms Are Effective."

Innocence Project is an organization dedicated to "exonerating the wrongfully convicted through post-conviction DNA testing; and developing and implementing reforms to prevent wrongful convictions."

Subject: SOAR sessions begin

Message: Summer Orientation and Registration (SOAR) begins today, July 27. We will welcome 135 incoming first-year students for the day college, and their parents/families. Soar Session I ends Friday, July 28 - and we will host SOAR Session II!

Soar II runs from Friday afternoon through Saturday. We have approx. 125 students attending, along with their parents/ families.

SOAR III begins Monday, July 31 and ends August 1.

Thanks to the Orientation staff and Orientation Leaders, and all those assisting our incoming students with registration and learning more about Augsburg.
